Global BioImaging Image Data Course 2025 in India

Dates: 16-20 June (5 full days)

Location: Pune, India

Venue: IISER Pune

Event overview

The Image Data course is jointly organzied by Global BioImaging, India BioImaging, a Global BioImaging partner organization in India, and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune.

The course will feature an overarching topic of image data including image analysis and image data management. The image analysis component will include theoretical and practical sessions in Python programming over the duration of three days.

The image analysis component will include the following:

  • A brief overview of the fundamentals of image analysis
  • An introduction to Python programming with a focus on image analysis
  • Hands-on sessions using Python programming for image analysis

The image data management component will feature OMERO installation, configuration, and data sharing over the duration of two days. OMERO is an open-source client-server software platform for managing, visualizing, and analyzing scientific image data, particularly in microscopy. It provides a secure central repository for storing, organizing, and annotating bioimaging and microscopy data. Participants will be introduced to OMERO by members of the Open Microscopy Environment (OME) team, Jean-Marie Burel and Peter Walczysko, and will be able to learn hands-on how to set-up the OMERO server at their home institution. The topic of FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) will also be briefly explored. In addition, the course will provide opportunities for the participants and the faculty to network with each other during planned social activities.

The tentative program will be available at a later stage.

This course is limited to 24 places and will take place in-person only.
